Program Overview

Description

Employers have expressed that new hires can take months before they are fully productive. The mandate of this program is two pronged:

  • Ease the financial burden incurred by employers when they hire youth
  • Provide youth with valuable, employable skills

The Sarnia-Lambton Youth Skills Connection (YSC) Program is designed to train unemployed and underemployed youth age 15 - 29. The mandate of this program is to bridge the gap between the current skills of youth and the skills needed by industry. This will be done through in-class training and through co-op placements.

There have been five courses identified to address the skills gap here in Sarnia-Lambton. These courses are:

Employer Benefits

  • Gain access to specifically trained labour force
  • Cost of co-op placement covered by YSC Program
  • Lessens the financial burden of hiring new employees
